Maggi Asam Laksa Instant Noodles ..._〆(・∀・@)

( ´ ▽ ` )ノ Hiya there ! Today's the first official review on instant noodles and I would like to wish a Happy valentines day to all of you out there. For all those single/forever-alone people out there with no one to celebrate with, fret not as I'll be here to comfort you with a review. (~-~;)ヾ(-_-;)
The item I will be reviewing today is Maggi's 2-Minute Noodles in the flavor of Asam laksa.Widely available at all Asian supermarkets, this instant noodle is usually sold in a packet of 5x78g.

Apparently, Maggi is Malaysia's No.1 Bag noodle ; as it was voted as the best performing brand by Reader's Digest Readers survey for three consecutive years(2000~2002). So I'll be grading this one with high hopes ;D

Item I will be reviewing today  φ( ̄ー ̄ )ノ

For those who don't know what asam laksa is, it is a sour, fish-based soup.Asam (or asam jawa) is the Malay word for tamarind, which is commonly used to give the stock its sour flavor.

The contents of the packet

When opened, the packet contains noodles in the format of a brick and an aluminium foil soup sachet. The directions are to add 400ml of water together with the soup sachet and noodles, which makes this instant noodle quite simple and clean to cook(the soup sachet is in powder form so any big watery goopy mess can be avoided for any butterfingers who might accidentally spill the soup packet when opening).

The opened up soup sachet

Once opening the soup sachet, it can be observed that it is in a form of a dark orange powder, almost like curry. When poured into the water, a sour ,tangy broth with the smell of laksa is observed. It almost instantly fills the air with laksa, it is that fragrant :D
On the spice wheel, I would rate the broth at a pinch of spicyness. If you want to try out this flavor, do keep in mind that it is far more tangy than it is spicy as the rating on spicyness is on the low range of the heat scale( somewhere around 1~3, I'm used to eating spicy foods so its hard to judge, heheh).
Since I'm a fan of sour, tangy soups , I put in a lesser amount of water and adjust the flavor of the soup by adding more water if its too sour for my liking, it also goes well when cooking for friends(who knows what their type(mild/regular/strong) is, right ?).
Therefore , i go with the motto "less is better than more" as with less amount of water, the soup can still be adjusted accordingly(unlike when an overabundance of water is being dealt with in a broth...horror, what to do ? add salt and pass it off as okay XD)

Patiently waiting for the noodles to cook  (。・・)_且

The time which the packet claims to prepare this dish is 2 minutes, which, from my perspective how long the cooking time depends on how flaccid/hard you prefer the noodles to be. I personally prefer mine to be a little bit flaccid so I'm going to let the noodles enjoy their "jacuzzi" a bit longer so they will soften up >8D
Once the noodles are cooked, there are no identifiables observed floating around when no extra condiments are added into the noodles.

The finished product (#´ー´)旦 did u notice that I've added an egg ?

Overall , the flavor of the soup resembles that of asam laksa very closely and the noodles are not too soggy as they do not have too much fat content which makes the rating of noodles on the scale of a mere okay. The noodle doesn't give me any runs to the toilet due to the controlled fat content in the noodles (some inferior noodles really give me a run to the toilet when the fat content is too high, my stomach just can't take it). This  is rated as a pantry-must-have-instant-noodle. It certainly lives up to its expectations ๏[-ิ_•ิ]๏

Maggi's Asam Laksa 2-Minute noodles are best cooked with any type of seafood(popular picks are slices of fish, seafood flavored meatballs, and prawns, but anything, really). For those who would like to add a light condiment which will not affect the flavor of the soup, then I would suggest that you can try adding an egg with some vegetables (FYI : seafood makes the soup a bit more sweeter). However, some minor improvements can be done by increasing the quality and thickness of the instant noodle. This is because the noodles do not last long enough to satisfy my hunger after a few hours and the soup would benefit from a reduce in the amount of MSG because it does trigger my allergies sometimes =v="

  1. This flavour from maggi is really a failure product to me. Tasteless!

  2. It's full of taste and flavour, better than the curry or chicken.
